How ScorePlay uses Hyperline to minimize billing efforts

ScorePlay's modular enterprise deals outgrew its payment provider. With Hyperline, the RevOps team automated billing and now barely logs into the platform.

ScorePlay is a sports tech startup that uses AI and workflow automation to help professional sports organizations manage and distribute their media assets more effectively.

Challenge

The previous solution could not handle custom enterprise deals. Sales created a new product for each client, and RevOps spent days tracking late payments.

Solution

Hyperline was the only platform flexible enough for ScorePlay's highly modular enterprise deals. The RevOps team runs everything without the tech team.

Pricing model

ScorePlay moved from tiered packages to a fully modular model. Clients select and combine the modules they need, based on storage and features.

Results

Billing now takes a fraction of the team's time, and email reminders cut client payment delays. The setup is ready for usage-based pricing on storage.

Modular deals on a standard billing stack

ScorePlay offers a digital, media and production asset management platform designed for sports organizations, connecting athletes, clubs, leagues, broadcasters, and sports brands through automated content management and delivery. Clients include Inter Miami, AS Monaco, and the Swiss Football League.

The pricing model took some iterations. A tiered approach, with packages based on storage and feature needs, worked for smaller customers, but larger clients required something more modular. ScorePlay now offers a customizable model where clients select and combine modules based on their specific needs.

Peter, Revenue Ops and an early employee at ScorePlay, saw the limits of standardization early.

“Initially, we tried to standardize our pricing model with plans and packaged offers, but it didn’t work because the needs and willingness to pay varied so much from one client to another.”

When the payment provider becomes the bottleneck

After managing billing manually for several months, the team turned to their previous payment provider to handle it. It was more of a reflex than a well-considered decision, and they quickly realized it was a mistake. The limitations for such a custom pricing model soon became apparent: an ever-growing product catalog, a poor email reminders feature, difficulty managing purchase orders, and poor handling of retroactive subscriptions.

“It clearly didn’t meet our needs for custom enterprise deals. Our sales team ended up creating a new product for each client, and I spent my days on the platform trying to track payments and restore order.”

Payment delays made things worse. ScorePlay operates in an industry with notoriously late payers, and following up with late-paying clients weighed on the teams, delaying sales commissions. When ScorePlay revamped its tool stack, the billing process was first in line.

Two options, then a third

Established players like Chargebee and Maxio looked rigid: the team saw a lack of support and human assistance, high costs, and an impersonal approach. Continuing with the current limited solution meant repetitive, low-value tasks and possibly a full-time hire to manage it all: not viable for a solution designed for tech teams first.

After evaluating several market solutions, the conclusion was clear. Hyperline was the only platform that adequately met ScorePlay's flexibility needs for managing highly modular enterprise deals, with everything overseen directly by the RevOps team.

Billing that runs itself

“Since switching to Hyperline, I spend so much less time on billing, it has changed my daily routine! I’ve set everything up well, and now I almost never need to log into the platform - and that’s the highest compliment I could give you!”

The onboarding matched. The Hyperline team ran dedicated sessions to set up the tool and rethink the process through HubSpot, and support answers within minutes when needed. The platform is plug-and-play and simple enough for Peter to handle everything himself, without bothering the tech team: a product clearly designed for finance and ops teams.

“Beyond the flexibility of the billing engine, I really appreciate the added product features designed for daily financial operations. For example, the email reminders have been game-changing for us in minimizing client payment delays.”

The pricing model will keep evolving, and the platform is ready for it.

“Our pricing works well today, but we know we’ll test adding usage-based pricing for our storage in the future. It’s reassuring to know that Hyperline is flexible enough to scale with us and allows us freedom in our pricing iterations.”

With billing reduced to a background task, ScorePlay’s revenue ops team spends its days on deals, not on invoices.
