What is unbilled revenue ?
Unbilled revenue is revenue that has been earned by delivering a service but has not yet been invoiced to the customer.
Unbilled revenue represents work completed or services delivered for which an invoice has not yet been issued. It is recorded as an asset on the balance sheet and is common in usage-based billing where consumption is tracked before invoicing at period end.
Example: A SaaS platform delivers API services throughout the month but invoices customers on the last day of the month. The revenue earned during the first 29 days is unbilled revenue until the invoice is generated.
