What is dunning management ?

Dunning management is the process of automatically retrying failed payments and communicating with customers to recover unpaid invoices.

Dunning management handles failed payments through automated retry logic, customer notifications, and escalation sequences. It helps reduce involuntary churn, revenue lost because of payment failures rather than customer dissatisfaction.

Example: When a card is declined, the billing system retries the charge after 3, 7, and 14 days, sending reminder emails each time before suspending the account.
