What is forward revenue ?

Forward revenue is the total contracted revenue expected to be recognized in future periods from existing customer agreements.

Forward revenue (also called contracted future revenue or backlog) represents the portion of signed contracts that has not yet been delivered or recognized as revenue. It provides visibility into future performance and helps with workforce and capacity planning.

Example: A SaaS company has signed $10M in annual contracts but has only delivered and recognized $3M so far in the year. The remaining $7M represents forward revenue, giving the CFO high confidence in the full-year revenue forecast.
