What is e-invoicing ?

E-invoicing is the electronic exchange of invoice data between a supplier and a buyer in a structured, machine-readable format.

E-invoicing replaces paper or PDF invoices with structured electronic formats (such as XML or EDI) that can be automatically processed by accounting systems. It is increasingly mandated by governments worldwide for tax compliance.

Example: A SaaS company operating in France must issue invoices through a certified e-invoicing platform to comply with the French government's mandatory e-invoicing rollout. The system automatically sends structured invoice data to both the buyer and the tax authority.
